Culture & Guiding Principles

Achieving the My House Group Vision and Objectives will require everyone connected with our organisation to work together. We can achieve much more as a collective and collaborative group than we can by working in isolation.

Building relationships with others, providing constructive feedback and doing our best in any circumstance are critical requirements of effective team working.

Teamwork is a crucial part in how we operate on a day to day basis. This applies as much to our own colleagues in Shared Services as it does to individual businesses within the Group.

Guiding Principles

Our vision is based around our six guiding principles. These principles run through the heart of everything we do and can mean different things to different people, we have defined what they mean to us.

Ambition

Ambition describes our strong and collective drive to help the group be successful today and in the future. This will require the development of a shared vision which should be understood and supported by everyone connected with our day to day operation. Making full use of our abilities and resources will be important to transmitting this principle into the service we offer to individuals and businesses within the group.

High Performance Working

High Performance Working describes the behaviours required to enhance individual and group performance. HPW involves a willingness to constantly look at adopting new working practices; an emphasis on empowerment and teamwork; and high levels of employee participation and learning. Motivation levels will increase; communication and trust will be improved. Knowledge sharing and innovation will become cultural norms within our group operation.

Change

Culture describes the "way we do things around here". Change describes the ongoing process of behavioural development required by everyone in our organisation. To be successful on the business growth journey we have to constantly change. New and improved ways of working will have an impact on everyone connected with the group and will be linked to the systems, processes, procedures used by all of us on a daily basis. Understanding the reasons for change and learning how to manage and cope with new behaviours will be critical to our long term success.

Personal Ownership

Personal ownership describes the ultimate cultural requirement of successful fast growing organisations. Taking responsibility for day to day business issues including challenges, mistakes, problems and performance lies with each individual. Leaders must lead. Managers must manage. Everyone must understand their expected contribution on the journey and the positive impact this will have on our group success. Personal ownership builds confidence, improves efficiency and helps create an energising workplace.

Commercial Awareness

Commercial awareness describes the understanding of the commercial realities facing our group from the organisation, supplier and customers' perspective. It also describes the impact our day to day activities have on the revenue, cost and service requirements of the group. Success on the business growth journey will depend on an appreciation of the bottom line performance of the group and the activities required to strengthen our financial position.

Opportunity

Opportunity describes the future possibilities for the group, individual businesses and everyone connected with our organisation. The possibilities for the group are endless including new markets, products, services, acquisitions and ventures. For colleagues throughout the group, personal development, advancement, increased responsibilities, new experiences and improved earnings are available as we succeed in the future.
